What is Pantone’s colour for the year 2022, and how can your brand use it?

A big day for anyone in the branding or design industry is the day that Pantone releases their colour of the year.

If you didn’t know, Pantone is a company that’s best known for its widely-used Pantone Matching System – a colour space that’s used across a whole range of industries.

They are basically the leaders in colour!

Every year, the company announces their ‘colour of the year’ based on fashion, political, marketing and societal trends that they think will be shaping the year.

Just because Pantone announces a certain shade as their colour of the year, doesn’t always mean that you have to use it. It’s just their best guess at the most popular colour for brands and consumers.

Here’s everything you need to know about their colour for 2022, and how your cosmetics brand could incorporate it into your product.

2022 Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone recently announced that this year’s colour of the year is PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, a beautiful purple hue “whose courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity.”

According to Pantone, this new shade is a symbol of the transition we’re all going through. After emerging through intense periods of isolation, Very Peri illustrates the fusion of modern life and how our digital personas are being manifested in the physical world.

How you can use Very Peri in your brand

Just because Pantone has announced the colour of the year, doesn’t mean that you have to change all aspects of your branding to keep up with the trend.

Here are a few small things you could do this year to incorporate Very Peri:

  • Add a pop of Very Peri to your packaging labels

If you’re planning to freshen up some of your packagings this year, why not add a little touch of Very Peri to the designs?

You don’t need to redesign your whole packaging, but adding a hint of the purple hue could be all you need to stand out.

  • Use Very Peri in your social media campaigns

Your social media posts are a great way to incorporate Very Peri, they’re not permanent and you can be super creative – even if it doesn’t strictly stick to your normal brand colours.

  • Use Very Peri for the launch of a new product

If you’ve got a new product coming out this year, the launch campaign could be the perfect excuse to use Very Peri.
