A metal-free fine mist sprayer is a finger-actuated sprayer built entirely from plastic parts, so no metal spring or ball sits in the product path. To spec one, you choose a dosage (how much liquid each stroke delivers), a neck finish that matches your bottle, and an application that fits the spray pattern. APG's Infinity HV Fine Mist Sprayer is APR-recognized for recyclability and comes in 0.5cc, 0.2cc and 0.19cc dosages on 20/410, 24/410 and 28/410 necks.
What a fine mist sprayer does
A fine mist sprayer turns a liquid into a soft, even cloud of small droplets. You press the actuator with one finger, the pump chamber pushes a measured dose through a small orifice, and the nozzle breaks it into a mist. When you release, the chamber refills from the bottle through a dip tube.
Fine mists suit products that should land lightly and evenly: setting sprays, facial mists, toners, hair sprays and leave-ins, body mists, linen sprays and room sprays. They are different from trigger sprayers, which deliver a larger, heavier output and are better for cleaners and garden products. If you are deciding between the two, our guide to all-plastic trigger sprayers covers when a trigger makes more sense.
What makes a fine mist sprayer metal-free
Most conventional sprayers use a small steel spring to return the actuator after each stroke, and many also use a metal ball as a check valve. These parts often sit in the liquid path. A metal-free design replaces them with plastic springs, valves and seals, so the whole sprayer is made of plastic.
There are two practical reasons brands look for this:
- Formula contact. An all-plastic design keeps metal out of contact with the formula, because there is no metal part in the product path.
- Recycling. Mixed materials, especially metal hidden inside a plastic part, complicate sorting and reprocessing. Removing metal is one step toward a sprayer that is designed for recyclability.
"All-plastic" does not automatically mean "mono-material." A sprayer can be 100% plastic and still combine PP and PE parts. The Infinity HV Fine Mist is all-plastic and lists both PP and PE components, so it is not a mono-material product.
Choosing a dosage
Dosage, also called output, is the volume released with one full stroke. It shapes how the product feels in use and how long a bottle lasts.
- 0.5cc is a larger dose. APG lists it for household products. Typical examples are linen, room and surface sprays, where you want wider coverage per stroke.
- 0.2cc and 0.19cc are smaller doses. APG lists them for personal care products. Typical examples are face mists, setting sprays, toners and hair products, where a lighter, more controlled application is the goal.
When you choose a dosage, think about how many strokes a typical user will take per use and how that maps to your fill volume. A smaller dose gives more control and more uses per bottle. A larger dose covers more area faster. Always test with your actual formula, because viscosity, surface tension and alcohol content all affect how the mist looks and feels.
Choosing a neck finish
The neck finish tells you which bottles a sprayer will fit. It is written as two numbers, such as 24/410. The first number is the outside diameter of the bottle thread in millimeters. The second is the thread style: a 410 finish has about one and a half thread turns, which gives a secure seal for pumps and sprayers.
The Infinity HV Fine Mist is available in three neck sizes:
| Neck finish | Typical bottle size range | Common uses |
|---|---|---|
| 20/410 | Smaller bottles, often travel and trial sizes | Face mists, setting sprays, travel sizes |
| 24/410 | Mid-size bottles | Toners, body mists, hair sprays |
| 28/410 | Larger bottles | Linen and room sprays, larger hair and body formats |
These ranges are general guidance. Bottle size and neck size are not locked together, so confirm the exact pairing with your bottle supplier. Dip tube length is cut to the bottle height, so share your bottle drawing or a sample when you request a quote. For more on matching necks and doses, see our neck finish and dosage guide.
Fine mist vs other spray formats
Use this comparison to check that a fine mist is the right format before you spec it.
| Format | Output style | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fine mist sprayer | Light, even mist from a finger actuator | Face and body mists, setting sprays, toners, hair sprays, room sprays | Smaller dose per stroke; thin liquids give the best mist |
| Trigger sprayer | Larger spray or stream from a hand trigger | Household cleaners, garden products, larger hair products | Bulkier; less precise for facial use |
| Mini trigger | Trigger action in a smaller head | Smaller bottles that still need a trigger grip | Larger dose and footprint than a fine mist |
| Lotion or treatment pump | Dispensed dose, no spray | Lotions, creams, serums | Not suitable for spray applications |
What to check before you commit
A metal-free sprayer still needs the same validation work as any other sprayer. Plan for:
- Compatibility testing. Fill samples with your formula and store them under your normal stability conditions. Check spray pattern, priming, leaks and any change in the formula or the parts.
- Spray pattern review. Check mist size, spread and consistency from the first stroke to the last. The "HV" in the Infinity name stands for high viscosity. If your formula is thicker than a typical water-based mist, send a sample so we can review it with you.
- Shipping. The Infinity HV Fine Mist is listed as e-commerce and Amazon capable and has a water-resistant design. Still test with your own pack-out, bottle and closure torque.
- Recyclability claims. The sprayer is APR-recognized for recyclability. Your on-pack claim should cover the whole package and say "recyclable where facilities accept it" rather than implying it is recyclable everywhere.
- Commercial terms. Ask us about lead times and minimums early, through our quote request form, so they fit your launch plan.

Common questions
Is a metal-free fine mist sprayer mono-material?
Not necessarily. Metal-free means no metal parts. Mono-material means every part is the same plastic family. The Infinity HV Fine Mist is all-plastic but uses both PP and PE parts.
Which dosage should I choose for a face mist?
APG lists the 0.2cc and 0.19cc dosages for personal care. These smaller doses suit face mists, setting sprays and toners. Test both with your formula to see which feel you prefer.
Can I use the same sprayer for a room spray?
The 0.5cc dosage is listed for household use, which includes room and linen sprays. Pick the neck size that matches your bottle.
Is the sprayer recyclable?
The Infinity HV Fine Mist is APR-recognized for recyclability. It is recyclable where facilities accept it. Check your full package, including the bottle and any labels, before making an on-pack claim.
Does it work for e-commerce shipping?
It is listed as e-commerce and Amazon capable with a water-resistant design. We still recommend shipping tests with your own bottle and packaging.
